Crutcher And Daniel Take NW Alabama 1st Event
By Tommy Milstead
Tournament Report: The
NW Alabama Teams trail opened its 2004 tournament trail
on Wheeler Lake February 22, 2004. Forty one teams entered
the tournament where a payout purse of $4,655 was up
for grabs. Fishing had been slow according to the early
morning reports. Most anglers had been struggling to
catch 12" fish throughout the week, plus the water
level on Wheeler had dropped almost 3 feet in just the
last few days. Clear skies and clearing water had most
teams chunking spinnerbaits around stumps and laydowns
from Decatur Bridge to Wheeler Dam.

Daniel of Moulton and David Crutcher of Huntsville weighed
in a 5 fish limit of 18.40 lbs. Daniel and Crutcher

jigs around stumps and rocks in 4 foot water. 1st place
paid out $1,550.
2nd Place-15.14 lbs. Donald
Murphy, of Madison and Kent Tankersly, of Pulaski took
2nd place with a 15.14 lb limit that included the Big
Bass going 5.60 lbs. The only 5 bites the they got came
on a crankbaits around stumps in shallow water. 2nd
place paid out $835 plus Big Bass of $410.
3rd Place-13.71 lbs. Ted
Tidwell and son TJ Tidwell of Muscle Shoals, teamed
up for 3rd place with limit weighing 13.71 lbs. Ted
and TJ fished spinnerbaits along shallow flats. TJ who

but it was the fish to fill their limit. 3rd place paid
$675.
