Gray With His Big Bass

The fifth qualifying tournament for the NW Alabama US Angler's Choice Team Trail was held on Guntersville Lake June 29, 2003. Roger McKelvey and Justin Wimberley brought in five fish that weighed 18.77 lbs. Wimberley and McKelvey targeted grass lines with Texas-rigged 9 inch worms in watermelon candy. Along with $1445 for first , they also carry home $1000 in BassCat Bonus Bucks.

Mike Davis and Van Schwendimann finished in 2nd with their limit that weighed 18.55 lbs. Davis and Schwendimann relied on LB Lures Black/Blue half ounce jigs and an LB Lures titanium spinnerbait in and around the grass lines. They won $570.

Third place went to David Gray and David Jones who weighed in a 17.11 lb limit anchored by a 6.97 lb Big Bass. Jones and Gray fished spinnerbaits all day and won $430 for third and $270 for big bass.

Jonathan Newton and Danny Leibecki weighed in the 4th place stringer with 16.96 lbs worth $330. Tim Chandler and David Stewart took 5th with 16.67 lbs and won $275.

Sam Mize and Bill Dillard remain in first place on the year to date standings with 545.94. Not far behind is the team of Mike Davis and Van Schwendimann with 536.72.
