It's suppose to be a team tournament, but
don't tell Mayfields David "Scotty" Young that.
Fishing alone Sunday Scotty brought in a 5 fish limit of
largemouth that weighed 15.39 pounds to walk away with top
honors in the 4th U.S. Anglers Choice tournament. The event
was held at Ken Lake Marina in Aurora. Scotty also had the
second biggest bass of the tournament, a 4.48 pound largemouth.
He said it took him awhile to find the pattern, but he was
able to catch his fish in the Yellow flowers on a spinnerbait,
flipping the bushed and running a crankbait in shallow water.
The day started out dreary with a little bit of spitting
rain, but cleared up to be a fairly decent day. High winds
in the morning kept most of the teams close to the ramp
as the water north of the 68 bridge was fairly rough. Some
of the fisherman reported feeling a few inches shorter after
fighting the waves all day.
In second place was the team of Chuck Round
and Danny York, both of Benton. They had a five fish limit
weighing 14.55 pounds. With their finish they took over
the points lead for the year. The points leaders from all
of the Northern divisions will fish against each other at
the classic for additional prizes and money. The Northern
Classic is on Dale Hollow the first weekend in November,
and is a no-entry fee event. The top 40 % plus wildcards
from each division will be invited to fish for 3 fully rigged
Bass Cat baots powered by Mercury OptiMax motors and outfitted
with Lowarnce electronics and a Motorguide trolling motor.
In Third was the team of Shannon Moats from
Clarksville, TN and Chris Hurst from Fort Campbell, KY.
They also had a five fish limit weighing 14.38 pounds. The
big bass of the event was caught by Craig Hipsher of Franklin
Ohio. He had a largemouth weighing 4.51 pounds, which he
caught on a spinnerbait.
The next Anglers Choice event will be out
of Kentucky Dam on May 23rd at 6:00 Am. For more information
