The Illinois winter division kicked off its 2004
season with the first of seven qualifying events on Lake Egypt.
The lake is a power plant lake and offers some of its best
fishing during the winter months. Take off temperature was
in the low thirties and immediately after take off teams were
pelted with sleet for a short period of time as if Mother
Nature wanted to remind them this is a winter division. The
temperature did make it into the upper forties by weigh-in
as respectable weights were brought to the scales.
In first place was team of Mark Jelley
and Danny Clark both of Mulkeytown, IL. Mark and Danny concentrated
their efforts in water depths ranging from 10 to 12 feet.
The team used a combination of spinner baits and jigs to
boat all of the day's fish. The fish were located about
mid lake and the bites did not come easy as they were spread
throughout the day. The team did manage seven keeper fish
during the day and after culling down to their best five
the team brought a bag to the scales weighing 15.70lbs.
The team takes home checks totaling $1,175.00 for their
day on the water. Danny and Mark would also like to give
a special thanks to their sponsor Pyramid Acres. Great Job
Guys!!
Second place goes to the team of George
Panick from Marion, IL and Albert Krueger of Chicago, IL.
The team fished the grass mats on the lake for most of the
day, using a rat or a frog to draw the majority of their
bites. George and Albert were also able to catch a couple
of fish on jigs and plastics as the day went on. The team
brought a five fish limit to the scales weighing 14.41lbs.
The day's catch earned the team checks totaling $646.00
for the place.
Third place goes to the team of Bob Hughey
from Carbondale, IL. and Steve Ramey of Cape Girardeau,
MO. The team also concentrated on the grass mats around
the lake to catch their fish. The baits of choice were frogs
and rats as they were able to bring four solid fish to the
scales weighing 12.85lbs. The day's total earnings came
to $289.00 for the place. Bob is sponsored by: Ron Ward
Chevrolet, Steve is Sponsored by: Cape GMC Pontiac.
Big Bass of the day goes to the team of
Bill Bernet and Fred Kisak both from Carterville, IL. The
fish was caught on a frog atop a grass mat near the back
of a cove. Fred stated the fish must have been in about
eight inches of water. The fish weighed 4.80lbs and the
team will cash checks totaling $180.00 for the bite. The
team is sponsored Bernet's Custom Tackle and Boogerman Lures.
