With weights this heavy, you'd think it's spring
again! Amazing weights came to the scales on Saturday, July
19th as the Western Delta trail hosted its 6th event of the
season. It was evident that the frog bite was in full swing,
as the top teams reported after weigh in.
First place went to tournament favorites
Chris Ball and Bobby Barrack, whose 5 fish limit weighed
an incredible 26.80 pounds!! Bobby told the weigh in crowd
that they caught the majority of fish within the first two
hours inside and around Big Break Marina on Snag Proof Tournament
frogs. They utilized four colors, including Black, Yellow
head, Sparrow and Mossback. The remaining fish weighed in
were caught flipping Reaction Innovations Dominator tubes
in Green Pumpkin. Chris and Bobby took home $1890 for their
first place victory along with Big Bass of the event, weighing
8.26 pounds.
It's always brutal when you weigh in 24.30
pounds and don't win! Unfortunately, that's exactly what
happened to local anglers Carol Fagundes and Phil Gangwer.
They weighed in an incredible limit of bass, anchored with
a 7.53 pound kicker fish. Phil stated that they started
their day out west around Big Break and ended it in Frank's
Tract. With the exception of two bass caught on buzzbaits,
the rest came on Reaction Innovations Dominator tubes and
Yamamoto Senkos. The key to their bite came when the tide
switched to outgoing. Phil and Carol took home $725 for
2nd place.
Todd Siegried and JD Madden took third place
with a very respectable limit of bass weighing 19.92 pounds.
For their efforts, Todd and JD were awarded $650 and third
place plaques.
Dean Grzelak and Tony Franceschi landed
in the 4th spot with 18 pounds, while Jimmy Ghirorso and
Armando Luziriga took 5th with 16.38 pounds.
The last event of the season is scheduled
for September 20th out of Big Break Marina. Angler's Choice
sponsors include Bass Cat, Mercury, Lowrance, Gary Yamamoto
Custom Baits, Bass West USA magazine, Competitive Edge and
Motorguide.
