Sapp and Varanai Win in the wind

Bethel Island CA, - Lundborg Landing again played host for the US Anglers Choice California Delta Region 4th event of the year as the team of Steve Sapp and John Varanai vaulted to their first victory of the year as the windy conditions played havoc with most anglers the pair were able to buzzbait some good fish in the South Delta Their limit was anchored by the big fish of the day, 8.17 pounds, that propelled them to victory.

The pair admittedly had strong finishes all season but had yet to win an Anglers Choice event this year their knowledge combined with plenty of time on the waters proved to be enough to put together an impressive limit of 21.10 pounds and earned them $1515 dollars, which included their Big Fish money of $310.

In second place with a beautiful bag weighing 19.31 pounds, the team of Cris Ball and Bobby Barrack. The pair's limit came while fishing frogs and earned them $600 for their efforts. They used a combination of Snag Proof Frogs, Buzzbaits and Senkos to finish their limits.

The always-tough team of Mark Mello and Marty Warner put together their usual solid limit, no big fish, and just another solid limit of 18.00 pounds. The team has had some consistent finishes throughout the year, yet cashed there first check for $480.

Rounding out the top five was Sean Wayman and Kevin Ryan with 16.84-pounds and Nish Yamamoto and Donald Harano with 11.98 pounds. Getting the just out of the money prize, Jason Brown and Luke Ellison will receive a 10% trolling Motor discount from Gene and the guys at the Hook Line and Sinker.

The use of the Lundborg Landing facility once again worked out very well as compared to some of the other locations on the delta anglers are more familiar with. Due to the extreme conditions this probably would have been held up if it had been out of some other more vulnerable conditions.
