The 5th Semi Pro event
took place on Saturday, July 19th with 26 anxious teams
waiting to fish the waters of the Delta. With consistent
100-degree heat for the past week, there were high hopes
of an early morning topwater bite followed with some
frog action. The delta didn't dispute as a few teams
were able to unlock it's secrets, along with setting
a new record along the way.
First place honors belonged
to Jeff Johnson and Ron Lopes. They weighed in an amazing
sack of bass, totaling 20.41 pounds and setting a record
for the heaviest limit in the Angler's Choice Semi Pro
circuit. Anchoring their limit was the big bass of the
tournament, a 9.05 pound bass caught first thing in
the morning on a white buzzbait. Jeff and Ron started
their morning by running out west, towards Big Break
and Dutch slough. The buzzbait was tossed all morning
long until about 10am, when the fish "got smaller".
In addition to the buzzbait, a Core Shot Yamamoto Senko
in color 914 was also responsible for filling their
limit. Rounding out their limit For their incredible
limit, Jeff and Ron received $1080 in cash, $1000 Bass
Cat Bonus Bucks, Competitive Edge rod for Big Bass,
and beautiful plaques.
Second place went to the
consistent team of Chris McCabe and Dwain King. These
guys decided to commit to the Stockton area and it paid
off handsomely with a 5 fish limit weighing 17.02 lbs.
Chris told everyone that they caught their limit of
bass tossing white Snag Proof Tournament frogs and flipping
Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worms in the Junebug w/ red flake
color. Anchoring their limit was a kicker fish weighing
5.89 pounds. Chris and Dwain were dialed into their
bite and started culling by 8:30 am. For their finish,
they received $395 for the 2nd place finish, along with
some bragging plaques for the wall.
Likeable anglers Robert
Wilkins and John Whitely came in 3rd place with 15.80
pounds, anchored with a 6.30 pound toad. These guys
headed up to Whites Slough in the morning and were tossing
Zara Spooks and buzzbaits to land their limit. As the
morning continued, they made a strategic move to fish
Mandaville and Frank's Tract and began flipping Senkos.
It always proves to fish until the last minute, because
their 6.30 pounder came on the last cast!
Rounding out the top five
are Dave Weber and Bob Ebel with 14.15 pounds, good
for 4th place and $240 dollars. Bret Owens and Dustin
Madrigal took 5th place with 13.23 pounds and $180 dollars.
The next Angler's Choice
Delta Region Semi-Pro event is scheduled for August
30th. Only the Semi Pro anglers will be present for
this event. In other words, the "regular teams"
will not be fishing this day. Expect an earlier blast
off and weigh in time! The event will take place at

in the grass field.
