100% BASS Press Release 9/28/08 - FLEMING / RHYME WIN THE LAST TOURNAMENT OF THE WRL SEASON ON THE DELTA The art of bass fishing with the heat to contend with was a tough lesson for several of the anglers who fished the last event of the season in the Western Rookie League on the Delta. For some, the scorching heat was not an issue while other struggled to land one bass in their boat. As the day progressed, some teams found nice limits had been carefully placed in their live wells while others had only water aerating waiting for a bass to enjoy a dip in theirs! The winners of the tournament and taking First Place in the large boat division were Troy Fleming and Kasey Rhyme both from Reno, Nevada who brought to the scales a nice limit of bass weighing in at 18.02 lbs. They told the crowd they caught their bass using Sweet Beavers in Fisherman’s Cut. They had the third big fish of the tournament that added 5.46 lbs. to their bag. They took home winnings of $970 and two nice “Bass Pro” tackle bags for their day on the Delta. The team of Andres Mendivil from San Mateo and Kyle Sackman from Redwood City weighed in the monster bass of the tournament. This beauty weighed 8.27 lbs. which was landed by Kyle giving them a total weight of 17.80 lbs. to take Second Place in the last WRL event of 2008. They told everyone they fished all over the Delta pitching Senkos and flipping jigs to get their limit. They took home $945 for their hard work. Joey Letsinger from Sacramento and Chris Garner from Yuba City caught their bag of bass in Franks Track and Fisherman’s Cut fishing slow and deep using crank baits, Senkos and jigs. The weight of their bass was 17.01 lbs. Even though they didn’t have a large “big fish” their 3.51 lb. larger bass added to their weight giving them Third Place in this event. They took home $1260 for paying into all the options. The team of Rick Cissell from Modesto and Mike Vasquez from Tracy had a nice limit that weighed 16.77 lbs. and took Fourth Place giving them winnings of $765 for their efforts. Fifth Place was the team of J.P. Gano of Vallejo and Kevin Pate of Rodeo who came to the scales with a bag of bass weighing in at 16.48 lbs. They took home a paycheck of $530. In the small boat division, Dean Karagan and Brett Sandell , both from Santa Clara took First Place in this division in addition to Seventh Place overall! Great job guys! They told everyone they fished Sandmound Slough using Rattle Traps to land their bass. They caught a nice kicker that weighed 7.31 lbs. giving them an overall weight of 15.32 lbs. For their efforts, they took home a nice paycheck of $165 for their day on the Delta. The Eye Surrender Sunglasses 20-20 Award went to the team of Dan Dunsford and John Prado. Wes was there to hand out their glasses. Congratulations guys! In Thirtieth Place was the tie for the Sponsors Bags with a weight of 8.43 lbs. for both teams of Wes Stevener & Tim Little and Todd Goodman & Dave Barker. Wes and Tim were present to win their bags however they decided to donate them once again to the TOC. They won the same award at Clear Lake and donated them to the TOC. That was very thoughtful. Fortieth Place was Roger Tarin and Brad Ward who were not present to win their Sponsor Bags and for this event. We had several teams who did not weigh in so Fiftieth Place was not able to be awarded and these Sponsor Bags will be given out at the TOC. To my staff, Jon, Matt, Kevin, Rich, Sheri, and Lori Cramer who helped with the weigh – in, thank you for an outstanding job this year. Sheri, my staff and I look forward to next year with the new changes to 100% BASS - WRL. We will be running both the Wine Region and the Mother Lode Region of WRL and hope to see you participate in the new WRL team events. Thank you to the Russo family and Staff for making our event run smoothly and very efficiently. You did a great job helping our anglers and we appreciate it. 100% BASS would like to thank the fine sponsors that make the difference between fishing and the quality events we are able to provide as a result of their support.
